California
may have had a lot of fuel altereds, but they didn't have a lock on
'em.
On these pages, they come from everywhere!
From Colorado to New England!
A
whole bunch of Gabby Bleeker stuff has come in over the last few months...and
a lot of it is late 50's and early 60's. Not being very familiar with
Gabby other than knowing he was on of the few guys to run a Bantam coupe
body, I'll show you what showed up, with whatever factiods i have, then
you can let me knw the truth, huh?

I
believe this is Rockford Dragway, I can barely make out the shield painted
on the doors that ran on the later versions of Gabby's hot rod...

No
location given, nor date. Gabby still has the Oldsmobile engine here,
but the car has been cleaned up a bit from the version below...

I
think this is the earliest photo I've seen of the Bleeker ride...1958
at Union Grove, WI. Doesn't appear that cosmetics were "job one"
here.

1960,
and things are cleaning up. The wheelbase is getting longer, there's
more go-fast gear on the engine, still with the stock grille and roof
height.

Gotta
be 1962-3, at the March Meet in Bakersfield. Don't recogonize the Fiat
in the other lane, but the roof's been cut on the Bantam, but the Olds
is still between the frame rails.

The
ultimate form for Gabby Bleeker. 1964 at Union Grove, WI. Chopped top,
tall 12 spokes, big Chizler, the midwestern nemesis of Willie Borsch.

Though
Walt would dig this. Walt's Puffer AA/A resting on the trailer at Indy,
1963. Nice Corvette tow car!

Nope,
not a fuel altered at all. But, since I know the guy, and it's my site,
I can do whatever the heck I want.
Jack
Brady's Fiat altered, Jack's from......and has a ball with this car.

Again,
I'm slipping. Gasmoline cars...Jerry Gywnn's Baby Huey. Yep, the dad
of current TF owner Darrell Gywnn. Gee, wonder how Darrell got hooked
on his drag racing stuff, huh?
Doh.

Stan
"The other Flying Dutchman" Bowman, and a very different approach
to fuel altered construction. Looks like a Woody Gilmore chassis, or
a copy of one (re:Groundshaker Jr, Warlock), but the right-side driver
offset is unique. I've only seen one other altered with this kind of
setup.

One
of Carl Stone's "Rollin' Stone" altereds...I think there were
4 at one point.

Geez,
another Carl Stone car! Indy, 1970?

Carl
Heichel's Carole's Mink altered. Another "blackie carbon"
car...I MUST be lowering my standards!

Rex
Stevens on Jerry Dawson's "Dawson's Demon" AA/Fuel Coupe.
This is what a fuel coupe looks like, not some steenkin' Camaro/Firebird/Mustang/Stratus/Celica
thingie.

And
here goes Rex Stevens in a ball of fire in the aptly named "Dawson's
Demon".
Not
good.

Darryl
"Whitey" Dentler...at Tucson for the Fuel Altered Nationals.
So
far, from what I've been told, Darryl's from
A)
St. Louis
B) Chicago
C) Denver
D) somewhere in fly-over country.
The
definitive answer is out there, somewhere.

Darryl
(or maybe it's his other brother, Darryl) labors at keeping those magnesium
American 5 spokes polished up.

From
Galveston, TX, Mitch King. Mitch now runs a limited number of NHRA events
in TF. No, not with this car!

You
know, after having another photo of this car on the front page of the
site for months, trying to get an ID, things start flowing.
