California may have had a lot of fuel altereds, but they didn't have a lock on 'em.
On these pages, they come from everywhere!

From Colorado to New England!

Geez, I bet you guys thought i'd NEVER update the site, huh?

Well, you're wrong. It just takes a little time to get back to it after almost 3 years away. But in that time, I've stashed plenty of Fuel Altered action away, both of the vintage type, and of the current hitters! Got quite a few more of the non-West Coast rollers, so it's time for Page 5 of Everywhere but the West Coast!

Cheever & Ferreira.

Notes from the photograper, Mike McCarthy
"Jim, I left the sport in 72, and after 30+yrs, my memory just won't jog on
the Cheever and Ferreira car, it was a regular at Connecticut Dragway though. I don't
know if the guy ever made a complete pass in it? LOL!"

Look familiar? It should. It's the ex-Mondello & Matsubara Fiat now (well, at the time the photo was taken) being run by new owner Rick Picard.

More notes from photog Mike McCarthy

" The Rick Picard car
is the Mondello & Matsubara car, Rick was an altered racer(I think he went
from an A or B altered right into that AA-FA car, and it was quite a
handful) from Woonsocket RI and he had it painted like the Mondello car, the
sign painter was Brian Signs out of Rockville Ct and thats his logo on the
nose, it really did look real close to the Mondello car!!

Glad you can use the shots, wish I had more, but over the years everything
has been lost but the handful of 8 x 10s that I have left. From late 68 thru
early 72 I was a photographer for the NorthEast rep (Art Irwin III) of Drag
News, so I had an awful lot of stuff, I wish I still had it. But I have
managed to get a little bit of everything to The Fueler, Funny Car, Twin
Engine, and your Altered site, you all have done a great job and brought
back an awful lots of "Great" memories."
Mike McCarthy, Bridgewater NH

And a quick note from the Lord of the Site: This car is now in the final stages of completion of a total restoration back to the Mondello/Matsubara configuration, being done by long-time hot rod legends Pete Eastwood and Karpo Murk. They've promised photos of the car in progress, so stay tuned!

I'm thinking that this is close to the final version of the D-A-K roadster, before it was purchased by Ron Pellegrini, and converted to the first Mustang Funny Car.
