John Lindsay's Impulse, Ed Moore handling the controls...looks like Tucson.

The next dozen or so shots are all from Tucson Dragway, from the Fuel Altered Nationals,
held on Labor Day weekend, from 1973, until 1981...

The former Nanook, now "Vendetta"of Joe Antonelli.
Unfortunately Joe passed away in August of 2001...

Johnny West's brother Jimmy West ran this Rat-motored Bantam...more Tucson.

Boy, I thought this was another version of Sandy Johnson's "Deliverance",
but now that I look at it, the name starts with "S", and I now know who it is.
Stan Lucas in the "Scrounger".

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

Rod Hynes, in the ex-Scrounger of Stan Lucas. Stan had hung up his helmet, due to real-world constraints...and threw Rod the keys to the rig, and said "Sic 'em up, boy!"

The Short Trip, soon to become the Deliverance...

Yep, they're from Maryland, but since all these shots are from Tucson Dragway and the Fuel Altered Nationals,
I figured It's be too confusing to throw over to the "Everywhere EXCEPT the West Coast " pages...
John Morey and his Rat Poison A/FA, injected 426 on nitro...

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

The "Instant Nut", funny car by day, Fuel Altered by Labor Day.

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

Dick Decker...sounds like a surf guitarist...who IS this guy?

I can now tell you two things about Dick Decker, he was originally from New York State, and moved to Arizona, where the racin' was good, and in this picture, the car's for sale...check out the "For Sale" sign taped to the side.

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

No question as to who this is...Ray Higley in the Climax Fuel Altered, with Nolan Pritchard's drivetrain.

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

The "Sweet Revenge" altered...now who IS this guy?

Phone call..."Hey, that's Ron Luks!"

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

Cal Jackson's "High Heaven" out of Colorado, matched up against Ed Moore in the "Mob"...

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

The "Rollin' Stone" altered of Carl Stone, Texas-based.
Carl had a veritable fleet of "Rollin' Stone" cars...at one point he was running 4 different cars under the banner.

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

John Aleman's "Sheepheder", more than likely with Tripp Shumake here at the helm...
the 'Cammer would be replaced by a Milodon eventually.

Brian Hoffsmith Photo

The legendary "Groundshaker Jr." of Glenn Way and Mike Demarest...

1977, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dave "Nasty" Benjamin's '27 T bodied Altered.
Dave was one of the few to run the 26-27 T bodystyle...

Greg Bellemeur's "Easy Rider" altered...Greg took the Fuel Altered Nats in 1974 with this car, running only alcohol...it was a war of attrition that race, and Greg outlasted all the heavy hitters!

Dave Kommel Photo

Mack McCord and his "Gorilla" Fuel Altered at LACR (Palmdale) in 1985.

"Nasty" Dave Benjamin at Tucson...

John Shanks Photo

Aleman's "Sheepherder again, here with the late model Milodon engine...
